Manchester United Monitor Ismaila Sarr as Crystal Palace Demand £50 Million
Manchester United are continuing to assess the situation surrounding Crystal Palace winger Ismaila Sarr, although the club have not submitted an official offer for the Senegal international. The 28-year-old attacker has attracted attention from several teams during the final stages of the summer transfer window, with Turkish champions Galatasaray also exploring a possible move.
Galatasaray make progress in negotiations
According to reports, Galatasaray have already made an approach to Sarr and have reportedly made progress in discussions with the player’s representatives. The Turkish club are looking to strengthen their attack before the transfer window closes and view the Crystal Palace forward as a suitable option for the wide areas.
Despite that progress, completing the transfer could prove difficult. Palace are believed to value Sarr at around £50 million and are not prepared to sanction his departure for a significantly reduced fee. With little time remaining in the window, Galatasaray would therefore need to reach an agreement with both the player and the Premier League club quickly.
Manchester United are aware of the developments but remain observers rather than active bidders. As of late August, the Red Devils had not submitted a formal proposal for Sarr. Their interest is described as ongoing, with the club keeping track of his circumstances while considering alternatives for the attacking positions.
Sarr’s growing influence at Crystal Palace
Sarr joined Crystal Palace from Marseille in August 2024, returning to English football after an uneven spell with Watford. His first period in the Premier League showed flashes of his ability, but he struggled to produce consistently. Since moving to Selhurst Park, however, the Senegalese forward has delivered a far more convincing run of performances.
Although Palace have received considerable attention because of players such as Michael Olise, Eberechi Eze and Jean-Philippe Mateta, Sarr has gradually become one of the team’s most important attacking outlets. His acceleration, direct running and ability to attack space make him a constant threat in transition, while his experience allows him to operate on either flank.
The winger enjoyed an outstanding campaign, finishing the season with 21 goals and two assists in 45 appearances in all competitions. Those numbers have significantly increased his profile and explain why clubs with ambitions at both domestic and European level are now monitoring his availability.
Sarr’s strengths extend beyond his goalscoring. He can carry the ball over long distances, stretch defensive lines and create openings for teammates by moving into central areas. His physical presence also enables him to compete effectively in the demanding pace of Premier League football.
Why Manchester United are interested
Manchester United have been linked with Sarr for several years, and their renewed interest reflects the club’s search for a dependable wide attacker. The team need greater productivity from the flanks, particularly after an underwhelming performance against Hull City raised further questions about the balance and creativity of the attacking unit.
Even if Marcus Rashford remains at Old Trafford, United cannot rely on one player to provide width, penetration and goals throughout a long season. Injuries, fixture congestion and inconsistent form have exposed the need for additional attacking depth. Sarr’s versatility could make him an attractive solution because he is capable of playing as a traditional winger or moving closer to the striker.
His Premier League experience is another factor in his favour. A move to England would not require an adaptation period, and Sarr already understands the physical demands, defensive organisation and intensity of the competition. That could make him a more immediate option than an attacker arriving from another league.
At the same time, United must consider whether his age and valuation fit their recruitment strategy. A £50 million investment in a 28-year-old player would represent a substantial commitment, especially if the club are also attempting to address other areas of the squad.
Uncertainty over his Palace future
Sarr’s position became more complicated after he reportedly missed training in the days before Crystal Palace’s Premier League opener against Everton. His absence has naturally fuelled speculation about a potential transfer, although it does not confirm that a deal is close.
Palace are under no immediate pressure to sell and appear determined to protect the value of one of their leading attackers. Unless a club meets their £50 million demand, the London side may prefer to retain Sarr, particularly because replacing an established forward so late in the window would be extremely difficult.
For the player, the decision is also significant. A transfer to Galatasaray could offer regular European football and a central role in a team competing for major honours in Turkey. Joining Manchester United, meanwhile, would provide the opportunity to remain in the Premier League and play for one of the biggest clubs in world football, but guaranteed minutes could be harder to secure.
A transfer battle that may go to the deadline
Galatasaray may currently have an advantage because they have already opened dialogue with Sarr’s camp. Reports have suggested that the winger is keen on a move to the Turkish club, which could strengthen their position if they succeed in agreeing a fee with Palace.
Manchester United, however, have not been ruled out. Their interest could become more concrete if the club decide that Sarr is the right profile to improve the attack. Any approach would need to be swift, given the limited time available and Palace’s firm stance over the price.
For now, Sarr remains a Crystal Palace player, while Manchester United continue to monitor events. The next stage of the saga will depend on whether United turn their interest into an offer, whether Galatasaray can satisfy Palace’s financial demands and how strongly the player pushes for a move away from Selhurst Park.
